Western Front – Anzac Day 2026
“Fiona and I have just arrived home following our tour of the Western Front battlefields and wanted to let you know how successful it was. John and Paul worked well together. We were expecting the dawn service at Villers-Bretonneux to be a highlight, which it was, but even more meaningful was the more intimate connections that we were exposed to by John’s and Paul’s contacts with the local people. I particularly wanted to express my thanks to them both for the care they took to accommodate my limited mobility. However the highlight for both of us was the trouble that Paul took to look into the connections that our relatives had in the war. We both were seeking a sense of place that meant something for people who were close to us, but Paul gave us much more. He went above and beyond to give us a meaningful experience. As Paul will no doubt confirm for you, Lesley and both of us spent an inordinate amount of time in tears. We really can’t thank him enough. We are spreading the word about Boronia to all and sundry (including the people at Australian immigration and customs with whom we inevitably got into conversation as I declared the mementoes I brought back with me- some shrapnel and a pine cone from Polygon Wood where my grandfather served). We don’t have John’s email address so please pass on our gratitude to him. Congratulations and many thanks.”

Western Front – Anzac Day 2026
“Hi Michelle & Alyssa, Thank you for your great service in organising our tour. My husband and I highly recommend the Western Front Battlefield Tour. I would like to give a great shout out to Tour Leader John Bromage. He had great leadership skills, the tour was highly organised and his sense of humour was infectious. A huge thank you to Paul Moggach, Australian Battlefield Historian. Each day Paul gave us the best history lesson and his knowledge of the Western Front was outstanding. The reason we went on the tour was to honour my Grandfather who fought in Gallipoli and Western Front. My Grandfather died before I was born and Paul was able to show me the place he got wounded. We started the tour with Moulin Rouge and then everyday was sensational. We will never forget ANZAC Day at Villers Bretonneux and Bullecourt. At Bullecourt we got to march with the locals who were so appreciative of our Diggers. Totally Amazing”

“We had a wonderful few days & everything more than met our expectations. The accommodation in Amiens & Ypres was very good, especially Ypres as it was on the main square & only a short walk to the Mennin Gate. The tour itself was very informative & we had more than enough time to spend at the memorials etc. We were able to find my Great Uncle’s headstone at Tyne Cot cemetery which was quite an emotional moment for me. A really good, but very sobering day. Such loss of so many young lives. We have told many people of our experiences & have no hesitation in recommending your company to any one who might be considering visiting that area of France & Belgium.”

“Our 1 day private Western Front Tour with Rod Bedford from The Battlefields Experience was just fantastic. I’m so glad I went for that option and I would highly recommend it for anyone in a similar situation i.e. wanting to ‘follow in the footsteps’ of a grandfather and more. Rod was just great. I had a bundle of my grandfather’s details from the Australian War Memorial & National Archives and a book on the 14th battalion. Rod had  huge amounts of general, specific and local knowledge.

He managed to pass on big picture info and explain all sorts of where/what/why stuff about particular battles and how events moved and changed and right down to all sorts of interesting and funny tidbits. And he seemed genuinely interested in granddad’s stuff and trying to piece together all sorts of stuff and to give me specific insights and suggestions on how to research some things further. And he was just such good company, chatting about all sorts of random stuff with both me and my 13 yo daughter.

So it really was a memorable experience for us both. I just wish it had been longer and I would love to go back some time and spend another day or two with Rod as my guide.
