Paul Moggach

Paul is a veteran of the Royal Australian Navy having served in a variety of operational and training postings at sea and ashore. He has also served on several operational deployments. Throughout his 37 years of service, he developed a passion for Australia’s military history which was enhanced by his travels particularly across the Asia Pacific region where Australians had served during the First and Second World Wars.

A student of leadership and history, Paul served as Directing Staff at the Australian Command and Staff College coordinating tours to Malaysia and Singapore, tracing the service of the Australian 8th Division through to the fall of Singapore in February 1942.

Paul is a third generation serviceman. His grandfather served with the Australian Imperial Force at Gallipoli and on the Western Front in France and Belgium.  His Aunts served during the Second World War and his father served in Malaya. Stories of his family’s service helped shape his passion for the history of Australia’s involvement in conflict during the 20th century.

Now retired, Paul is a volunteer guide at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra. He is currently the manager of Volunteer Guide training working with the Memorial’s Military History, Education, Curatorial and Visitor Services staff in developing and delivering training to new guides. He has a passion for more personal stories linking descriptions of larger formation actions down to the experiences of the individual service men and women. He loves to walk the ground while relating the experience of those who have served.
